What Does Ceramic Coating Protect Against?

Ceramic coating adds a durable, hydrophobic layer over your vehicle’s clear coat that helps protect the finish from UV exposure, oxidation, water spotting, bird droppings, road grime and other environmental contaminants. In Arizona, that added protection can be especially useful against intense sun, dust and hard-water exposure.

It also makes painted surfaces easier to wash and maintain while enhancing gloss and depth. Ceramic coating does not prevent rock chips, dents or deeper scratches. For physical impact protection, paint protection film (PPF) is the better solution.

Ceramic coating at Clear Cut Glass & Tint typically ranges from $1,000–$2,300 per vehicle. Final pricing depends on the preparation required for your specific vehicle, including:

  • Vehicle size — Larger vehicles require more product and more labor to prep and coat.
  • Vehicle year and color — Certain vehicles will require different levels of preparation before coating.
  • Current paint condition — Swirl marks, oxidation, scratches and other imperfections may need to be corrected before the coating is applied.
  • Amount of paint correction needed — More extensive correction requires additional labor before the coating can be installed.

Every ceramic coating is installed inside our fully climate-controlled facility, providing a controlled environment for proper application and curing.

The Clear Cut 10-Step Ceramic Coating Process

Proper preparation is critical to ceramic coating performance. Before applying XPEL ceramic coating, our team uses a multi-step preparation process to clean and decontaminate the vehicle, address surface imperfections, remove residual oils and prepare the paint for coating application.

Steps 1 through 5 of the Clear Cut Glass & Tint ceramic coating process, including touchless wash, pH-balanced hand wash, iron removal, standard hand wash, and spot treatment.
Steps 6 through 10 of the Clear Cut Glass & Tint ceramic coating process, including microfiber dry, non-abrasive buffing, polish, alcohol surface wipe, and ceramic coating application.

Should You Get Paint Correction Before Ceramic Coating?

Not every vehicle needs paint correction before ceramic coating. We inspect the paint first for swirl marks, oxidation, light scratches and other imperfections. If correction is recommended, it is completed before the coating is applied so those defects aren’t simply sealed beneath the ceramic coating.

We offer two options to choose from:

The appropriate level of paint correction can improve the clarity and gloss of the finish before ceramic coating is applied.

Ceramic Coating FAQs

Yes. Arizona’s intense UV rays, blowing dust, hard water, and extreme temperatures can quickly wear down your vehicle’s finish. Ceramic coating creates a durable, hydrophobic layer that helps protect against environmental contaminants, makes washing easier, and helps your vehicle maintain its gloss longer. For many Arizona drivers, it’s one of the best investments you can make to preserve your paint.

Clear Cut Glass & Tint installs XPEL Ceramic Coating Premium V2, an 8-year ceramic coating. How well the coating performs over time also depends on proper installation, vehicle use and ongoing maintenance. Before installation, we evaluate the condition of the paint and perform the preparation and paint correction needed for the vehicle.

Ceramic coating helps protect your vehicle from UV exposure, oxidation, bird droppings, bug residue, water spots, and chemical contaminants, but it is not designed to stop rock chips or deep scratches. If maximum impact protection is your goal, Paint Protection Film (PPF) is the better solution. Many customers choose to combine PPF with ceramic coating for the highest level of protection.

In most cases, yes. Ceramic coating locks in the condition of your paint, so removing swirl marks, light scratches, and oxidation beforehand allows the coating to bond properly and creates a deeper, glossier finish. We’ll inspect your vehicle and recommend whether paint correction would benefit your results before installation.

Yes. Ceramic coating can be applied over professionally installed Paint Protection Film to make the surface easier to clean, increase water repellency, and enhance gloss while helping protect the film from environmental contamination. Many of our customers choose this combination for long-term protection and easier maintenance.

Most ceramic coating installations take one to two days depending on the condition of the paint, whether paint correction is needed, and the coating package selected. Because every vehicle is different, we’ll provide a more accurate time estimate after inspecting your vehicle. We also offer loaner vehicles for many appointments to make the process more convenient.

Drivers throughout Glendale and the Phoenix West Valley choose Clear Cut Glass & Tint for experienced installation, careful surface preparation and paint correction when needed.
